Recreational Classes
Classes offered in 6 different styles for all ages
Ballet
Classes are designed around a structured classical ballet class; warm up/barre, center combinations, across the floor, and variations. Dancers will learn technique and vocabulary, flexibility, coordination, and confidence. Advanced students with two or more years of ballet experience will be promoted to pre-pointe and then pointe with the approval of an ASD faculty member.
Tap
Tap is a high-energy style of dance that combines both technique and musicality. Tap classes offer training in sound tap technique, along with developing an ear for rhythm and musical creativity. Objectives for tap classes are learning choreography quickly, identifying vocabulary and common steps, and whole body coordination.
Jazz
Jazz is a broad style of dance that ranges anywhere from competition jazz to Broadway. Classes are focused on basic jazz dance technique and movement quality with an emphasis on proper execution of jazz isolations, musical accents, body control and coordination, and style performed.
Clogging
Clogging is a type of folk dance in which the dancer's footwear is used percussively by striking the heel, the toe, or both against the floor or each other to create audible rhythms. This class will focus on basic clogging steps and rhythm.
Hip Hop
Hip hop infuses the latest styles of street dancing, breaking, popping, and locking. Classes will encourage students to step outside of the box by bringing their own individual style and personality to the movements.
Contemporary
Contemporary is a dance form which fuses modern dance, jazz, and ballet. Students will expand upon dancing from the core, and remaining grounded throughout their movements. Students will also learn how to use music to elevate and guide their movement through the use of dynamics and identifying accents.
